Zac Efron fans have been calling him ‘unrecognizable’ in a new interview, seemingly forgetting his freak accident in 2013, which almost killed him. Although he survived, the horror fall at home resulted in a shattered jaw and left the star’s chin “hanging off his face.”

The Hollywood star is currently doing a round of interviews for his upcoming wrestling movie The Iron Claw in which he stars alongside Jeremy Allen White and Harris Dickinson, and promo videos have fans questioning his appearance.

Zac Efron looks ‘unrecognizable’ in new video

The star-studded trio got together for an interview with Entertainment Tonight about the new blockbuster.

Efron, who plays the role of Kevin Von Erich in the film, said the movie was “an incredible movie about family, love, loss and ultimately a triumph about a man who breaks the cycle of this crazy curse.”

Although fans were ‘raving’ about how excited they were about the film in the comments, others couldn’t help but comment on how ‘different’ the High School Musical star looked.

Taking to Instagram, commenting on a snippet of the interview, one fan questioned: “What happened to his face??”

One joked: “Why does David Hasselhoff look like Zac Efron?”

“I keep thinking there’s a Chad filter on his face. Jeez,” wrote another.

One claimed Zac didn’t even look like himself: “Wow! He looks Sooo different! It doesn’t even look like him. maybe I’m trippin’.”

“I think he still looks hot,” wrote another.

Others came to clear things up: “Before everyone comments about it Z said that his jaw shattered in an accident and he had to get it restructured which is supposedly why it looks different now,” one fan commented.

The star’s ‘horror fall’ almost killed him

For years, rumors had been floating on the internet about the 36-year-old’s appearance, until he finally opened up about the horror incident in 2022 in an interview with Men’s Health Magazine.

He revealed how he slipped running whilst wearing a pair of socks at home, smashing his chin into a granite fountain.

The injury, which could have been so much worse, required him to undergo surgery, and have his jaw wired shut.

“It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
