Hundreds of athletes gathered today in the Quad Cities to showcase their power tumbling and trampoline expertise. It’s a first for the Quad Cities.
“It’s a large competition from different various states. Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Iowa, ” says Carri Winter, owner of Elite Tumbling Academy.
Over the weekend, the River Center in Davenport hosted some 2,000 families and more than 500 athletes to show off their power tumbling and trampoline skills.
Owner of the Elite Tumbling Academy in Moline says, it’s something the area was missing.
“There’s only a couple of gyms here that do power tumbling and trampoline.”
This event not only filled a void for gymnasts.
“Every competition that i know is an open door for opportunities, and its fun to think about that every competition that there could be someone in the stands,” says gymnast Blair Bastian.
On Saturday, the competition held a national team trial for a spot in the junior Olympic team.
For 13 year old Q-C native Blair, this was an opportunity she had to land.
” I kinda like had a feeling like ok im not gonna try get my hopes up so when i looked at the scores i was like oh my god i made the national team,” shares Blair.
This event not only benefits the athletes but surrounding businesses too.
“Its good for the community down here because everyone went to these nice restaurants and families traveled. The businesses around here definitely got a lot of people,” says Winter.
And if the competition looks intimidating, Blair has some advice.
“Just like never give up just always keep on going and never let anyone get in your way of your dreams and goals because i mean you can do it.”
