Aisling Bea was rushed into surgery when her 'arm was hanging off' after bike accident

Aisling Bea has spoken about the terrifying bike accident where she was left with her ‘arm hanging off’.

The TV star and comedian detailed the horror injury on a Saturday night talk show. The Doctor Who actress said she had been riding at the time but was knocked down, leading to her having to undergo surgery.

Aisling Bea was knocked off her bike in scary accident

Whilst being interviewed on The Jonathan Ross show, Aisling Bea, from Ireland, explained she had been riding her bike during the pandemic when the accident happened.

She explained: “I was supposed to have keyhole surgery on my shoulder from an accident two days beforehand but when I went in, they found out my arm was hanging off.

“They had to go in and totally reconstruct my shoulder while I was asleep. I got knocked down off my bike in the pandemic.”

The celebrity was set to start filming BBC show Avoidance, but the script had to be adapted due to her injury in the health scare. The series had to have parts rewritten to accommodate for her sling.

She admitted she was taking a lot painkillers while filming to get through the scenes.

“We were scheduled to film for a week and a half. Out of my head on painkillers. I just remember it as one long day,” she said.

“We had to make my sling part of the character, but I really couldn’t move very much.”

Word of warning for cyclists

The award-winning comedian posted a photo of her x-ray after the accident at the time, with Aisling Bea also offering a word of warning to other bike users.

She joked in a social media post: “Time to reward my loyal followers with a Friday night NUDE photo of me. Taken during a consensual photo shoot by an NHS radiographer & presented to me by a lovely nurse called Stewart who was very kind.”

She also praised the medical staff: “Everyone at the hospital was so kind despite me taking up time during a pandemic for being a numpty & coming off my bike.”

Aisling also told followers to stay safe on the roads in London when cycling, and urged them to pay attention when riding. She reminded users to wear a helmet whenever they’re on a bike.

She added: “Cycle safe, DON’T get cocky, look what happened to me and Lance Armstrong.”
